Description

The Rec Spec OG Popcorn watch is inspired by the original MACV-SOG watches of the 1960s, adding a modern twist while paying tribute to its heritage. Its shiny black “popcorn” dial texture gives the watch a bold look without compromising readability. The clean green luminous indexes offer a sleek, contemporary feel while honoring the classic design.

With a 38mm case and a 4-hour integrated crown placement, the Rec Spec is comfortable to wear in any situation, whether you’re in the field or not. The integrated crown design also protects it from being accidentally pulled out and keeps the watch’s profile slim.

This watch is powered by the reliable NH36 caliber from Seiko, featuring a custom date wheel that matches the vintage SOG watches. The NH36 movement, with a 40-hour power reserve and a day-date complication, is the closest modern equivalent to the original caliber used in the MACV-SOG watches. The movement operates at 21,600 beats per hour (BPH), ensuring the watch is ready for any challenge.

The Rec Spec project began after meeting John “Tilt” Stryker Meyer, a former MACV-SOG member. He explained how the unit sourced local Seiko watches from Vietnamese markets. These watches, initially sold as dress watches, proved effective as field watches for elite units in Vietnam, giving the MACV-SOG watches their unique appearance compared to traditional US military watches of the 1960s. The Rec Spec, short for “Reconnaissance Spec,” honors the men and equipment used to gather valuable intelligence behind enemy lines.
