Description

OMEGA commemorates the Apollo 8 mission with a new iteration of the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 timepiece. This watch, a tribute to the first human flight to orbit the Moon in 1968, comes equipped with advanced technology, a diverse material palette, and expert craftsmanship. The original Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 model was released in 2018 for the mission’s 50th anniversary. The latest version enhances the design with finer detailing and refinement.

Key features of the new Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 include the Calibre 3869, with a laser-ablated Moon relief on its blackened main plate and bridges, showcasing two different lunar perspectives. The movement, visible through a skeletonized dial, has achieved the Co-Axial Master Chronometer standard, ensuring top-tier precision, chronometric performance, and magnetic resistance.

The 44.25 mm watch case, polished bezel, and case back are crafted from black ceramic, with the tachymeter scale in white “Grand Feu” enamel. The central chronograph seconds hand is yellow, complementing the black rubber strap with a yellow interior. A new addition is the small-seconds hand at 9 o’clock, designed like NASA’s Saturn V rocket and made from Grade 5 Titanium.

The case back features engravings, including Jim Lovell’s historic words to ground control during Apollo 8 “We’ll see you on the other side”. as well as “Apollo 8, Dec 1968” and “Dark Side of the Moon”. Owning the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 symbolizes a connection to the Moon and OMEGA’s space exploration legacy, while also representing the enduring potential of human achievement.
