The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Enamel ‘Dragon’ is a remarkable timepiece that combines the brand’s iconic swivelling case design with exceptional craftsmanship. Originally designed in 1931 for polo players, the Reverso’s case back quickly became a canvas for artistic expression. The 2023 edition celebrates the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dragon. This watch showcases the skills of master enamellers and engravers from the Métiers RaresTM atelier.

On the reverse side, a majestic dragon, engraved into pink gold and set against a glossy black Grand Feu enamel background, appears to leap out. This effect is enhanced by the detailed engraving, including the dragon’s polished and sandblasted textures. The technique of modelled engraving, requiring 80 hours of work, was employed here with exceptional precision, especially since the engraving began on an already enameled surface.

The dial of the Reverso Tribute Enamel ‘Dragon’ mirrors the case-back’s opaque black Grand Feu enamel, offering a simple yet elegant design with faceted appliqué hour-markers and Dauphine hands. Achieving the deep, rich black enamel requires a meticulous process of multiple layering, firing, cooling, and polishing, totaling around 24 working hours.

This timepiece, requiring immense skill and years of experience, is a testament to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s mastery in both artistic craftsmanship and technical watchmaking. Created as a made-to-order piece for the Chinese Zodiac Year, the Reverso Tribute Enamel ‘Dragon’ represents a harmonious blend of culture, creativity, and technical expertise.
