Description

Since its introduction in 1995 with the Portugieser Chronograph Rattrapante, the chronograph complication has become a hallmark within the Portugieser collection by IWC Schaffhausen. Noteworthy design elements include the vertically arranged sub-dials, facilitating easy readability, and an inner flange featuring a quarter-second scale for precise timing.

Now, IWC unveils three new versions of this beloved chronograph in striking color variants: Horizon Blue, Obsidian, and Dune. A highlight of these models is their dials. Beginning with a brass base, a sunburst finish is applied before layers of transparent lacquer are meticulously added and polished to a lustrous shine. The intricate process involves more than 60 steps, including the precise milling of totalisers and the painstaking application of appliques by hand.

The Portugieser Chronograph features the IWC-manufactured 69355 calibre. With a column-wheel control mechanism, each phase of the chronograph function is precisely defined, offering tactile resistance for enhanced usability. Its seamless integration with the base movement ensures consistent accuracy, even under rigorous conditions. The vertical subdial arrangement, placing stopped minutes at 12 o’clock and small seconds at 6 o’clock, not only enhances readability but also serves as a distinctive design feature of the Portugieser Chronograph.
