Description

At Watches and Wonders Geneva 2025, IWC Schaffhausen expanded the Ingenieur line with the new Ingenieur Automatic 42 in black ceramic—a first for the integrated-bracelet series originally shaped by Gérald Genta’s design language. This reference, IW328903, introduces a full ceramic execution using a three-part case structure comprising a ceramic case ring, bezel, and case back ring. A titanium inner ring secures the components with functional screws, enhancing both durability and water resistance.

The ceramic bracelet connects via articulated middle links and features the same intricate finishing as the case—satin-finished surfaces, smooth sandblasting, and finely polished edges. These processes, applied to the extremely hard zirconium oxide ceramic, demand diamond tooling and precision workmanship. A black dial with the signature “Grid” texture and Super-LumiNova®-filled markers continues the theme of functional design integrity.

Powering the watch is IWC’s in-house calibre 82110, which incorporates a Pellaton winding system with zirconium oxide ceramic components at key stress points, ensuring longevity and efficiency. The automatic movement offers a 60-hour power reserve and beats at 4 Hz, visible through a tinted sapphire case back that aligns with the all-black aesthetic.
