Audemars Piguet

Audemars Piguet has introduced a new iteration of its Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin Openworked watch, expanding its existing collection. This new model, crafted in 18-carat white gold, features the self-winding Calibre 7124, which is impressively thin at 2.7 mm.

The design pays homage to the original Royal Oak of 1972 with a sporty stainless steel appearance. The case and bracelet are made of white gold, with mirror-polished edges and satin-finished surfaces, a signature of Audemars Piguet’s design.

The movement is treated in anthracite grey to enhance the openwork, with the inner bezel slightly darker for better legibility. The watch boasts a 57-hour power reserve and meticulous openwork, a technique employed by Audemars Piguet since the 1930s. The Calibre 7124 is designed to fit the slim “Jumbo” case without compromising its elegance or functionality, showcasing the brand’s expertise. Advanced production technologies are used, followed by hand finishing of each component. Openworking is a demanding process, with 247 inner angles on this movement alone, all finished by hand.

The Royal Oak collection has expanded over the years to include approximately 50 openworked models in various sizes, materials, and styles. Openwork first appeared in the Royal Oak collection in the 1980s and gained prominence in the 1990s. The “Jumbo” openworked models were introduced in 1992 and have since seen several iterations, including limited editions to commemorate significant milestones of the Royal Oak collection..
